42nd Street Moon’s
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council
The 42nd Street Moon Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council (DEI Council) is comprised of 42nd Street Moon board members and staff as well as Bay Area actors, directors, choreographers, musicians, designers, technicians, and youth who strive to celebrate and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within 42nd Street Moon both on and off stage as well as throughout the Bay Area theatre community. This council currently meets monthly to discuss our goals and action plan for change.
The 42nd Street Moon DEI Council is guided by the following definitions:
Diversity – The innate and acquired differences that make every individual unique, including (but not limited to) age, race, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, socioeconomic status, education, language, veteran status, caste, creed, work experience, organizational level, political affiliation, marital status, and philosophical and intellectual perspectives.
Equity – Equity guarantees just treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all by striving to identify and eliminate systemic barriers in order to allow for the full participation of all groups.
Inclusion – Empowering all individuals to contribute their unique perspectives and fostering a positive environment in which any individual is welcomed, respected, supported, valued, and uplifted to be their full authentic selves at all times by eliminating both implicit and explicit barriers to communication and participation.
MISSION
Our mission is to develop, strengthen, and support diversity both within 42nd Street Moon as well as throughout the Bay Area theatre community. We aim to promote a culture of equity and inclusion where all staff, board, artists, and audiences are treated fairly and given the opportunity to do their best work.
VISION
That our staff, board, artists, creative team, volunteers, students, and audience are representative of the diversity of the Bay Area community, aiming to eliminate the systemic biases that pervade the arts and entertainment industry and society as a whole.
