Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables are now staple musical theater diet, but what about those forgotten jewels? What about those long-lost shows that the audiences of yesterday adored? Where are they now?

San Francisco's 42nd St. Moon is a theater company dedicated to digging up, dusting off and re-presenting those rarely performed musicals. The folks at 42nd St. Moon want to make certain that the lost treasures of the musical theater history don't stay buried forever.

Formed in 1993 by Greg MacKellan and Stephanie Rhoads, 42nd St. Moon is a non-profit corporation devoted to the preservation and performance of classic American musical theatre. Since July 1993, 42nd St. Moon has presented over sixteen staged concerts of rarely-performed musicals, a revue Once in a Blue Moon, and 100 Years of Hammerstein and Hart, a concert evening at the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center in San Rafael. The name "42nd St. Moon" is derived from an early nickname for the bright lights of New York's 42nd St., where many of the greatest musical theaters (including the New Amsterdam, Sam Harris and Time Square) are located.

This website has been designed under the guidance of 42nd St. Moon to educate the public as to the company's purpose, to inform the attending public of upcoming performances, to provide background history on the company (and potentially, on shows currently being preserved!).
