42nd Street Moon is pleased to announce the appointment of two Executive Directors: Daren A.C. Carollo and Daniel Thomas. With a combined half-century of professional theatrical experience, Daren and Daniel will take on producing our seasons, increased development goals, and growing the company’s mission to become the destination for musical theatre in San Francisco.

Under their creative and intelligent leadership, I am confident we can and will sustain our mission and build a brilliant “New Moon” for future generations of musical theatre audiences, artists, and students in the Bay Area.”

Daren has been a leader in the Bay Area arts scene for over a decade. Previously, serving as the Producing Artistic Director of Berkeley Playhouse, Executive Director of Broadway By the Bay, and Artistic Director for Diablo Theatre Company/DLOC.
His production company, Carollo & Palumbo, LLC, produced the musical bare Off-Broadway and invested in A Time to Kill on Broadway. He is an award-winning director with over 50 credits over the last thirteen years. Daren has directed for Diablo Theatre Company, Pacific Coast Repertory Theatre, Napa Valley Opera House, Ohlone and Solano Colleges, Town Hall Theatre Company, DRAA’s On Broadway, El Campanil Theatre, and Contra Costa Civic Theatre. He is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association and Theatre Bay Area’s Theatre Services Committee.

A Bay Area native, Daniel brings two decades of professional theatrical experience in Southern California as an administrator, producer, actor and musical director. His administrative career began as the Box Office Manager with the Santa Barbara Civic Light Opera, followed by 14 years as the General Manager for Musical Theatre West and then the Business and Finance Director for the Norris Center for the Performing Arts. During that time, he co-founded and was Producing Artistic Director for Music Theatre Ensemble, which became the wildly successful Reiner Reading Series of Musical Theatre West, and was the producer/conductor of the musicals in concert series at the Norris Theatre. Daniel has also been an actor, musical director/conductor and/or musician for over 100 professional theatrical productions, working with everyone from first-timers onstage to Emmy and Tony Award-winners and nominees and covering almost every regional theatre in Southern California, including Musical Theatre West, 3-D Theatricals, McCoy-Rigby Entertainment, Cabrillo Music Theatre, Moonlight Amphitheatre and the Santa Barbara, San Gabriel and Fullerton Civic Light Operas.

Moon was a labor of love for Stephanie Rhoads and myself, and it has been so gratifying to be a part of its growth the last 23 years,” says Founding Artistic Director, Greg MacKellan. “Now it’s time for it to move forward with new directors who have fresh eyes and energy, and it could not be in better hands. I am excited by what the future holds for 42nd Street Moon under Daren and Daniel’s direction and will be eagerly watching as Moon moves towards its 25th anniversary season and beyond!”

Greg MacKellan retired from 42nd Street Moon as of June 30, 2016, and is purusing new theatrical opportunities in Southern California. Stephanie Rhoads continues to be an active presence with 42nd Street Moon as a member of its Board of Directors. 42nd Street Moon is celebrating its 24th season in 2016-2017, the last season personally selected by MacKellan, which will include Baker Street, the return of last year’s smash hit Scrooge in Love!, New Girl in Town and .
